Police say officers surrounded the apartment on the 200 block of West Victoria Street and made announcements calling for anyone inside to exit. After several attempts with no response, officers reportedly entered the residence but did not find anyone inside.

Police say the murder investigation remains active.

UPDATE (2:10 p.m.) - As of 2:10 p.m., all streets in the area were open and police had left the scene.

ORIGINAL STORY - Santa Barbara police are asking people to avoid the area of De La Vina and Victoria streets due to police activity in the area.

This is the same area where a deadly shooting occurred early in the morning on New Year's Day.

In that case, two men believed to be in their 20s were shot. One died at the scene while the other was taken to the hospital. Police say shots were fired inside a home and in the street outside.
