Two men were hospitalized in a rollover accident in Oceano on New Year's Day, according to California State Parks officials. The men are now said to be in "stable" condition.
The men, ages 42 and 44, took to the dunes in a two-seat, off-road vehicle after ringing in the New Year and the vehicle turned over unexpectedly, officials said.
Emergency crews reportedly transported the men in serious condition to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria and Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. Alcohol does not appear to have been involved but speed may have been a factor, according to State Parks.
State Parks would not confirm the names of the men or where they were from.
This was not the only accident over the holiday weekend. There was a solo ATV accident on December 30, but injuries were not life threatening and State Parks officials say the driver was not transported.
