Posted: Updated:

The Earl Warren Showgrounds in Santa Barbara is housing dozens of animals that have been evacuated as a result of the mudslide in Montecito.

The Santa Barbara Equine Clinic Assistance Group says some of the animals have also been found abandoned in the evacuation areas.

As of Friday morning, the Showgrounds had:

  • 16 horses
  • 9 cows
  • 8 donkeys
  • 8 goats
  • 8 chickens
  • 7 rabbits
  • 4 llamas
  • 3 pigs
  • 2 sheep
  • 2 alpacas

The animals can stay at the Showgrounds for at least a week.

"It's hard on all of us, we all have jobs and need to go to work and so we're gonna try to get some alternative sites for some of the animals," said Kathy O'Connor, President of the Santa Barbara Equine Clinic Assistance Group.

The Earl Warren Showgrounds was an evacuation area for animals during the Thomas Fire, as well.
