Toa Taua chooses the University of Nevada

Posted: Updated:

Lompoc senior running back Toa Taua announced at the 2018 Polynesian Bowl in Hawai'i that he has committed to play football at the University of Nevada. The Wolfpack were one of Toa's final three school choices, including Iowa State and Utah State.

Toa capped off an outstanding senior campaign with the Braves where he helped Lompoc capture an undefeated Los Padres League Championship.

According to MaxPreps, Toa rushed for 1,073 yards on 146 carries in 2017, an average of 11.5 yards per gain. Toa scored a total of 26 touchdowns this past season while rushing for over 150 yards per game.

Toa talked with KSBY before Saturday's Polynesian Bowl to discuss his reasons for choosing Nevada.

"It's a great program," Toa said. "The coaches are efficient, and I have some family up there which gives me that home feel. I won't really be out there by myself kind of thing. The recruiting class coming in and just the whole recruiting from them, you know they started recruiting me at the beginning of my senior year. We've had the strong connection."

Toa's brother, Vai Taua, played for Nevada from 2007-2010 and is now a Special Teams Analyst for the Wolfpack.
