Six students from Maple High School in Lompoc were taken to the hospital on Friday for evaluation because they were believed to be under the influence of a controlled substance, Santa Barbara County Sheriff's officials reported.

School officials say teachers noticed the students' behavior and demeanor were out of the ordinary.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office personnel were called to the school to investigate.

The students were released to their families after being treated at the hospital.

Sheriff's officials say there was no threat to the students or staff at Maple High School during the incident.
