Punxsutawney Phil's prediction has no bearing on Central Coast heat wave

Posted: Updated:

While Punxsutawney Phil has declared six more weeks of winter on this Groundhog's Day, the Central Coast is still waiting for winter weather to arrive.

This heat wave's grip does not appear to let up anytime soon. A July-like weather pattern will continue for at least the first few weeks of February.

High pressure remains steady over the region, however the ridge will weaken subtly this weekend.

The weakening ridge will allow the return of afternoon onshore flow and slightly cooler temperatures.

However, daytime highs will still remain well above average as they climb into the 70s and 80s.

Expect plenty of sunshine and a few high clouds for your Super Bowl weekend plans.

By Tuesday, the ridge is forecast to rebuild and send daytime temps into the mid-80s the remainder of the work week.

There is a slight chance of rain around Valentine's Day but frankly, it is too far out to call for rain with any certainty.
