Santa Maria man charged with involuntary manslaughter for shooting death of teen brother

A Santa Maria man is now facing felony charges in connection with a shooting that took the life of his younger brother.

Fernando Navarro, 19, is charged with involuntary manslaughter, discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, and unlawful firearm activity. 

Navarro's 13-year-old brother, Leonardo, was shot Saturday at a home on the 600 block of West Polk Street. Police say he died later at the hospital.

Fernando Navarro has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Bail was set at $130,000. He is expected back in court for a hearing on Feb. 15.
