A car crash on Highway 101 just south of Arroyo Grande slowed traffic during the evening commute on Tuesday.

It happened at about 5 p.m. northbound, just north of Laetitia Winery.

An SUV went off the roadway and crashed into a tree. The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, had to be cut out of the vehicle by first responders, but he was able to walk himself back up to the road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the SUV was traveling in the fast lane and clipped the left rear corner of a semi truck in the slow lane. The driver of the SUV then lost control of the vehicle and skidded off the highway into the tree.
