CA Coastal Commission fights Trump administration expansion of offshore drilling

Posted: Updated:

The California Coastal Commission is urging lawmakers to protect the state's waters and shores from more gas and oil production.

The group voted unanimously Wednesday to urge that California be removed from a program that would open new oil and gas leases off its shores.

The move is in response to a Trump administration decision to expand offshore drilling across U.S. coastlines.

Currently, the Central Coast has about 20 oil platforms from about 40 leases. Some of those leases are set to be decommissioned.
