Guadalupe math teacher charged with lewd acts resigns

Posted: Updated:

A man who was a Guadalupe junior high school teacher and Cal Poly graduate student when he was arrested and charged with lewd acts last year is no longer teaching for the district.

Guadalupe Union School District Superintendent Ed Cora tells KSBY the Board of Trustees accepted James Ungricht's resignation during a board meeting last month.
Ungricht was placed on administrative leave following his October 18 arrest on the Cal Poly campus.

A campus spokesperson said Ungricht was identified as the suspect caught on camera engaging in lewd acts in the university library on October 3.

The former Kermit McKenzie Jr. High science and math teacher has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Ungricht is due back in court for a trial-setting conference next week.
