Lompoc police warn of phone scam

Posted: Updated:

Lompoc police are warning of a phone scam.

On Thursday, February 8, an elderly Lompoc resident received a scam phone call asking for money. Police say the caller said he was the victim's grandson and he had been arrested while on vacation in another state and needed $7,000 in cash to bail out of jail.

Officials say this is just one type of call that has been used to victimize people. The suspects in these cases will usually have information to make the story believable to the victim.

The Lompoc Police Department says to call them if you need help in handling this type of incident.
