19 Cal Poly students honored by lawmakers at state capitol

An accomplished group of Cal Poly students will head to Sacramento Monday morning to be honored for their outstanding achievements. 

State lawmakers will recognize 19 students on the floors of the state Assembly and Senate Monday afternoon. 

Assemblyman Jordan Cunningham of San Luis Obispo and Senate Majority Leader Bill Monning of Carmel will introduce the students. 

The students were selected for distinguishing themselves by receiving a national industry award or participating in other high-profile events, including the Tournament of Roses Parade and the concrete canoe team that won a national championship. 

The following students will be honored:

  • Kristen Cotter, Palos Verdes Estates, CA
  • Alexandra Gambonini, Petaluma, CA
  • Ali Harake, Moreno Valley, CA
  • Jeremiah Hernandez, Santa Maria, CA
  • Tony Lopes, Gustine, CA
  • Colton Marino, Lincoln, CA
  • Mayra Mejia, Lodi, CA
  • Heather Neldner, Torrance, CA
  • Laney Nelson, Chico, CA
  • Melinda Ong, El Dorado Hills, CA
  • Bianka Pantoja, Arvin, CA
  • Colleen Richards, Centennial, CO
  • Yessenia Sanchez, Hollister, CA
  • Vanessa See, San Francisco, CA
  • Emma Weitzner, Cleveland, OH
