Firefighters conduct prescribed burn Tuesday near San Simeon

Posted: Updated:

Residents on the north coast of San Luis Obispo County may notice smoke Tuesday due to a large prescribed burn.

Firefighters plan to burn 120 acres off of Highway 1 just north of Cambria, according to CALFIRE SLO.

According to California State Parks, the burn will be done in a grassland area at the intersection of Highway 1 and San Simeon Creek Road.

If weather conditions are not ideal for the grassland burn, firefighters may switch to burning brush piles near the Washburn campground at Hearst San Simeon State Park.

The burn is set to begin at about 9:00 a.m. and last until 4:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Officials say this burn is being done to manage vegetation and regulate the ecosystem.

Cambria Firefighters also warn community members to limit their time outside for those sensitive to smoke.
