A barn owl injured in the Thomas Fire was allowed to return home Friday, according to The Ojai Raptor Center.

The center posted a video to its Facebook page Monday, showing the release of the bird.

The Associated Press reports the owl was initially found two months ago, curled into a ball near a basketball court outside Cabrillo Middle School.

The owl couldn't hunt or fly and was struggling to breath.

Staff members released the bird near where he was found, because they say since he was an adult it was likely he had his own territory and possibly, a mate.
