Teacher: Bullet lodged in boy's head after school shooting

Posted: Updated:

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A former teacher says a 12-year-old boy shot in a Los Angeles classroom when a gun accidentally went off in a classmate's backpack still has a bullet lodged in his head.

Bridgette Robinson says in a post on a GoFundMe fundraising page that Issa Al-Bayati will require another surgery and months of treatment.

She says her former student is suffering from frequent bouts of dizziness and impaired vision and has problems walking.

Robinson, who taught at Sal Castro Middle School for four years, says Issa's "resiliency and spirit were amazing."

Los Angeles police said a single gunshot had been fired from inside a 12-year-old girl's backpack on Feb. 1. The bullet struck a 15-year-old girl in the wrist before it hit Issa in the temple.

The girl was charged with two felonies.
