Posted: Updated:

UPDATE (3:30 a.m.) Santa Maria Police have identified the woman involved in a standoff Tuesday as 37-year-old Joanna Savoy of Santa Maria.

Savoy is behind bars Wednesday morning on two felony warrants as well as kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon.

Law enforcement first became suspicious of Savoy at about 12:40 p.m. Tuesday when officers spotted her getting into a car outside a local motel.

Officers chased the car but eventually called off the pursuit. Investigators later learned she had threatened to shoot the driver of the car if that person stopped.

Tuesday afternoon, Santa Maria police and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter around a home on the 1100 block of Kit Way.

Officers were there for several hours asking Savoy to come out of the house.

At about 9 p.m., Santa Maria police's SWAT team used an armored vehicle to break into the home because Savoy refused to cooperate with police.

She reportedly surrendered when the SWAT team sprayed tear gas into the home.

UPDATE (9:30 p.m.) - Police say the woman now in custody was wanted on several warrants.

UPDATE (9 p.m.) - The standoff has ended with a woman's arrest.

A SWAT team broke into a home the woman was refusing to leave. KSBY News witnessed her being searched and placed into a patrol car.

Law enforcement used a device attached to the front of an armored vehicle to bust into the building through a window and provide "eyes" inside to see what the woman was doing and make sure she could hear the officers' commands.

Emergency medical technicians were evaluating the woman for potential injuries.
