Cooler and windy weather arrives early next week

Posted: Updated:

The headline in weather is that there are a few twists and turns ahead.

Offshore flow will continue Saturday which also looks mild with more highs in the 70s but some significant changes in temperatures begin on Sunday, highs will fall back into the 60s for most and by Monday and Tuesday inland highs fall into the 50s and the coastal area will only see low 60s for highs with much stronger NW winds.

This is part of a larger shift in the position of the jet across The West.  We have seen a large ridge much of the month but next week a trough digs into The West.  Initially, a cold front comes through Saturday night into Sunday.  I think it is a dry passage since the air is pretty dry here.  Sunday into Monday looks very windy with some winds 15-30 with gusts of 40+ possible near the coast.

The jet looks to stay in a winter trough position into the middle of next week for cooler than average conditions.  Models have been consistently showing rain chances at the end of the month and into the beginning of March.
