Cuesta baseball falls to Sequoias, 5-4

Posted: Updated:

The Cuesta College baseball team fell to Sequoias, 5-4, as the Giants scored twice in the Top of the 9th to avoid a three-game sweep to the Cougars. Cuesta held a 4-3 lead heading into the final frame, but a two-on, two-out drive to the left-center gap by Giants' Shortstop Wyatt Tilley tipped off the end of a diving Center fielder Chandler Hughes’ glove, as he valiantly tried to make a game saving grab, and turned into a two-RBI triple.

The Cougars came right back with a single in their half of the 9th, but a double play and a strikeout ended their hopes. Third Baseman Mason Grotto enjoyed a three-hit day for the Cougars, while scoring once and driving in a run, and Right fielder Zack Berohn was 2-for-5 and also had a pair of RBI.

The Cougars are 8-6 and host unranked Napa Valley for a three-game set starting next Wednesday (2 PM). The Storm is the first unranked team or team outside the Top 10 the Cougars have faced this year.
