Pre-evacuation advisory issued for Santa Barbara south coast

Posted: Updated:

A pre-evacuation advisory was issued for Santa Barbara south coast Sunday evening.

The Santa Barbara Office of Emergency Management sent out the advisory considering the National Weather Service has indicated there will be storms in the area this week.

With a slight chance of thunderstorms late Monday night into Tuesday morning, the sheriff's office says it's best to be prepared if evacuation orders are issued.

There is a chance that minor debris flows and flooding below burn areas can happen.

The county says they will be monitoring the situation closely.

"If at any time during this storm you feel threatened you should take action," the advisory said. "If you have access or functional needs, or have large animals to move, consider preparing to leave earlier."

We badly need rainfall here on the Central Coast after last winter's dismal performance with many locations getting 50% or less of average rainfall.  Our rain season ends on the 30th with a new season beginning Monday.  So, technically speaking the rain possibility we are talking about wouldn't actually help our current season but rather help the next.  That said the rain chances are interesting.  The two major computer models both like some type of rain next week....
