Restraining order issued against SCE in Thomas Fire lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

A judge has issued a temporary restraining order against Southern California Edison, a victory for several residents accusing the utility of starting the Thomas Fire that led to the deadly Montecito mudslides.

SCE has already removed poles and equipment from areas where the fire may have started. Santa Barbara County Judge Thomas Anderle has ordered SCE "to preserve, and not alter or destroy any of the power poles already removed from Anlauf Canyon."

The judge's ruling also calls on SCE to produce a list of equipment removed from the canyon - where the fire is believed to have started - and to allow residents access to the equipment next month.

Southern California Edison has maintained the poles have been photographed and stored in a secure place. The next court hearing is set for April 20.
