Montecito Union School students to attend other schools during storm

Posted: Updated:

Students in the Montecito Union School District will attend schools in the Hope School District on Thursday and Friday because of evacuations in anticipation of a coming storm system.

Currently, a Recommended Evacuation Warning is in place for the area that includes Montecito Union School.

Students in kindergarten through first grade will attend Vieja Valley School. Second through third graders will attend Hope Elementary. Fourth through sixth graders will attend Monte Vista School.

The students will have the same teachers as they do at Montecito Union School and all of the children's medications and any other safety equipment will be moved to the new schools. A little more than 400 students are affected.

Cold Spring School District is also within the boundaries of the evacuation warning area. The approximately 170 students at Cold Spring School will attend classes at El Rancho School in the Goleta Unified School District on Thursday and Friday.

All of the teachers will move over with the students, as well. The superintendent says six classrooms are being set up for the students.
