Cabrillo girls basketball advances to CIF divisional finals for first time in school history

Cabrillo High School girls basketball is headed to its first divisional CIF finals in school history.

The team punched its ticket to the CIF Southern Section Division 3AA final championship after knocking out Sunny Hills, 49-39 in the semifinals.

The Conquistadores (26-2, 14-0 Los Padres League) were eliminated in the quarterfinals over the past three years and are excited to finally compete for the title.

"I think they're all in. It's a very tight-knit group, very team-oriented and willing to sacrifice minutes to have the opportunity to win," said Jared McCune, Cabrillo head coach. "We've been saying the last few weeks, 'Why not us? If it's going to be anybody, why not us?' We're excited, and they're ready."

"For the past three years, we've been stuck in the quarterfinals. As soon as we got past that game, we said let's go all the way. We have faith in ourselves, and we believe we can do it and win it all," said Erin Jenkins, Cabrillo senior guard.

Cabrillo will play Warren High School at Colony High School on Saturday, March 3. Tip-off is at 4 p.m.
