Santa Maria police launch new crime tipline

Posted: Updated:

The Santa Maria Police Department hopes residents will help them solve crimes with a new phone tipline.

The department launched a new tipline Thursday for residents to report information on serious crimes. Detectives will then investigate the tipline information.

Officials say you can leave a tip anonymously.

Calling the tipline is a two-part process.

First, call the Santa Maria Police Department's main line at (805) 928-3781, wait for the automated message and then dial COPS or 2-6-7-7.

You'll be sent to a voicemail box where you can leave your message, anonymous or not.

The tipline will not be monitored 24/7 so in the event of an emergency, police say to call 911.
