Santa Barbara Police and county officials started recruiting "Crosswalk Hero" applicants Monday.

Sometimes, students have to walk to school because there is no other form of transportation available.

The Santa Barbara Police Department posted this video to its YouTube account, in hopes of gaining some prospective candidates.

"Children are still developing mentally and physically - as a result, they sometimes make risky decisions when crossing the street," SBPD said.

Crosswalk Heroes are paid, part-time positions in the mornings and afternoons during the regular week.

Interested parties should head to the county's website for more information and take in an application to Sgt. Mike Brown, at the police department, located at 215 E. Figueroa Street.
