1 killed in rollover crash in eastern SLO County

Posted: Updated:

One person was killed in a rollover crash in eastern San Luis Obispo County Tuesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol reports five people, all from Avenal, were inside the Chevrolet Tahoe when it crashed on Bitterwater Road about 12 miles north of Highway 58.

It happened at about 6:10 a.m. No other vehicles were involved.

CHP says the driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and lost control, causing the Tahoe to roll over multiple times.

Two people, who were not wearing seatbelts, were thrown from the vehicle. CHP says one of the other passengers, a 50-year-old woman, had to be extricated from the vehicle and died at the scene.

Her name has not yet been released.

CHP says the driver and other passengers were taken to area hospitals with moderate to major injuries.

Investigators say it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash.
