Santa Barbara County Sheriff seeks funding for off-road patrols

Posted: Updated:

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office is seeking grant funding to increase patrols in areas where off-road vehicles are being used illegally.

Sheriff's officials say they've received an increased number of complaints about people riding ATVs in the Santa Ynez riverbed and areas bordering the City of Lompoc. They say those riders are in violation of a number of state and county ordinances.

The sheriff's office submitted an application to the State of California Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division 2017/2018 grant program. As part of the process, the public can provide comment and feedback until April 2, 2018.

To view the online grant application and submit a comment, go to the California State OHMV Grants and Cooperative Agreements Program website.
