A high-speed chase through multiple cities ended in San Luis Obispo Tuesday night when troopers set out a spike strip to stop the driver.

CHP troopers say the chase started in King City when a man, described to be in his 20's, zoomed past a trooper in a red Mercedes on Highway 101 driving between 100 and 140 mph.

The driver hit the spike strip just north of the Monterey Street exit in San Luis Obispo. He then pulled over, got out of the vehicle, and held his hands in the air, according to CHP.

A helicopter was sent to the area as well.

Authorities say it's unclear why the unidentified driver started the chase. He's now in custody for questioning and no other information was available at this time.
