San Luis Obispo girls soccer advances to state regional semifinals

Posted: Updated:

San Luis Obispo High School girls soccer only had a couple of days to put its first-ever CIF Southern Section Division 2 final championship behind them after falling, 3-2 in double overtime to Temecula Valley. The Tigers' focus quickly shifted to its chase for a 2018 CIF Southern California Regional State title.

No. 2 San Luis Obispo welcomed no. 7 Edison Tuesday afternoon for its first home playoff game since February 15. The game was scoreless until the 32nd minute, that's when Olivia Ortiz scored the only goal and lifted the Tigers to a 1-0 victory.

Despite the win, there are still a couple of adjustments ahead of the state semifinal match.

"The intensity needs to get a little higher. The energy was a little low today," said Brittney Viboch, San Luis Obispo head coach. "It could be because of four long road games. That's probably what it is. They've had a hard path so we just need to loosen up a little bit and play better for the next game."

The Tigers will host no. 6 Sunny Hills on Thursday.
