Horn stolen from train engine in Santa Maria

Posted: Updated:

Officials with the Santa Maria Valley Railroad are looking for a horn that was swiped from a train engine.

The horn cost about $3,000 and was welded onto the top of the train engine. Rob Himoto -- president of the 14-mile freight railroad -- said it was likely stolen between late Saturday afternoon and early Monday morning from the Osburn Yard.

Whoever stole the horn probably used a tool that cuts through metal such as a grinder or welding torch, Himoto said. The horn has been replaced.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the railroad at 805-922-7941.
