Fire officials urge you to check smoke alarms

Fire departments are using the time change as a reminder to check your carbon monoxide detectors and smoke alarms, which can save your life.

Carbon monoxide detectors will sound if there is odorless gas is in your home. Odorless gas can put you to sleep and can be deadly. Smoke alarms sound when smoke is detected inside the home, alerting residents to evacuate.

Fire officials want to remind homeowners that the batteries inside the alarms should be changed once a year, and tested often.
