SLO International Film Festival kicks off Tuesday

The San Luis Obispo International Film Festival kicks off Tuesday with a Bollywood-themed opening night celebration. 

The movie, "Hotel Salvation," will be shown at the Fremont Theatre following the opening night party at Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo. Tickets for the film range from $12 for students and film society members to $15 for the general public.

Other special events during the film festival's six-day run include the Central Coast Filmmakers Showcase on Wednesday, March 14 with a red carpet mixer at Mission Plaza.

Friday is the popular Surf Nite at the Fremont Theatre. The 10-minute short film "The Agave Gun" will be shown, followed by the North American premiere of "The Big Wave Project."

On Saturday night, actress Pam Grier will be presented with the King Vidor Award. The George Sidney Independent Film Awards will also be presented in several categories with the winners receiving cash prizes.

The film festival wraps up on Sunday, March 18 with the Closing Night Awards. Awards will be presented for Central Coast Filmmakers, Youth Filmmakers and the Audience Awards. The 7th Annual Spotlight Award will be presented to screenwriter/filmmaker Robin Swicord.

Other special presentations during the film festival include screenings highlighting the Beat Generation, "Movies for Wine Lovers," movie classics, and much more. In all, 139 films will be shown at multiple venues throughout San Luis Obispo County.
