Man who shot deer in Los Angeles suburb pleads no contest

Posted: Updated:

PASADENA, Calif. (AP) - A Southern California man caught on camera shooting a deer with a bow and arrow within a suburban foothill community has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says Michael Rodriguez was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days of community service following his plea to one count of possessing wildlife taken unlawfully. He also received three years' probation, during which time he's barred from hunting.

A homeowner in Monrovia said his surveillance camera recorded footage showing a man shooting the deer near his house in September.

Rodriguez claimed he shot the deer in a hunting zone but it didn't die. He said he followed the animal to the residential area so he could kill it.
