Central Coast runner Jordan Hasay announced her withdrawal Sunday night from the Boston Marathon hours before the race.

Reports show that Hasay had an MRI that indicated a stress reaction in her heel, which is a precursor to a stress fracture, and can no longer run in the race.

The Boston Marathon JH Twitter account confirmed the reports with the following statement:

"Despite my team working to give me every chance to make it to the starting line, I won't be able to join you. I'll be cheering everyone on and hope you enjoy this historic race."

Hasay used her Twitter account to share her full announcement, while sending best wishes to her fellow competitors in the race.

Hasay finished third among women at last year's Boston Marathon. Her time of 2:23:00 set a marathon debut record for an American woman. She was also the fourth fastest American woman ever at the Boston Marathon.

We reached out to Hasay and her trainer for comment, but have not yet heard back.
