'Wine, waves and beyond' event raises money to combat hunger

Posted: Updated:

Surf's up at the Cliffs Resort at the 9th annual Central Coast Surf Classic event with this year's theme "Wine, Waves and Beyond."

Rabobank hosted a barrel-to-barrel event with live music and at least 40 visiting wineries from the Central Coast.

Proceeds from the event go to GleanSLO, a program through the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County that pairs farmers and backyard growers with volunteers to harvest leftover fruits and vegetables that would otherwise go to waste.

"It's an easy solution to hunger," said Roxanne Sanders, project manager for GleanSLO. "A lot of these people have never had a pomegranate or an apple grown down the street so I think it's just a really easy solution and people can understand it."
