Ticket into Tech program provides path to software engineering career

Posted: Updated:

A local non-profit is pushing people to succeed in a different way.

It is offering affordable technology education courses to get people into the tech industry.

Ticket into Tech was started by SLO Partners and teamed up with local tech companies and Fullstack Academy to offer a bootcamp to San Luis Obispo County residents.

Organizers say technology jobs in San Luis Obispo have increased 20 percent in the last five years and helping people enter the industry will help combat under-employment and the economic loss after the Diablo Canyon Power Plant closes.

"Once you come to San Luis Obispo you love it and you want to figure out how to stay but we got a high cost of living, high cost of housing and really what we're trying to do with the coding bootcamp and software engineering process, that's to get people into head of household jobs," said SLO Partners Director Michael Specchierla.

Organizers say their past bootcamps have been really successful and they expected even more of a turnout this time around.

They're offering five summer bootcamps, including a full-intensive software engineering course.

They also have scholarships available.
