25 local chefs went head to head creating yummy soups to support wildlife rehabilitation.

A lifestyle food and wine event "Soupbration!" is the Pacific Wildlife Care's ninth annual fundraiser and it took place at the Avila Beach Golf Resort Sunday.

The best Central Coast cooks competed to make the best soup for the nonprofit's biggest fundraiser. Awards for "Best of Show" and "People's Choice" were given out.

The event, themed "May the Soup Be With You", was expanded this year to help raise more money for animal rescue and wildlife care programs.

Sunday's festivities also included a silent auction, unique artist soup bowls, wine tasting and a Junior Chef Mentor Contest.

This was the first year the event featured a junior competition. Kids from all over the area were encouraged to write a story about soup for a chance to win a meet-and-greet with an executive chef and bring their favorite imaginary soup to life.

An event coordinator says the first winner was 12-year-old Mia Beck, with her story, "Peace Soup" that will be created by Fig at Courtney's House.

The second winner was Izic Winkelpleck of Delmar Elementary in Morro Bay, whose "Soup To Feed The World" story who will be partnered with Chef Christy Rivera of Honeymoon Café. "I think the story was so sweet and the concepts so mature for an 9-year-old," said Rivera.

Pacific Wildlife Care operates in San Luis Obispo County as a rehabilitation center made up of more than 1,000 staff members who care for injured animals.
