Jeopardy! contestant shows no signs of slowing down, passing $1 million mark

Posted

In just 14 episodes, a professional gambler hit the $1 million dollar mark on game show Jeopardy!.

With his win on Tuesday night, James Holzhauer has now racked up $1,061,554. He is now into second place in all-time earnings during a regular season behind Ken Jennings who took home $2.5 million during his 74-game winning streak in 2004.

Holzhauer has such a strong following that Jeopardy! introduced an official “James Tracker” so fans can keep up with his winning streak.

Holzhauer is a unique player — he starts at the bottom of the board to hunt for the big money first and he fully doubles down when he finds a daily double. He told NBC News he attributes his lightning fast skills on the buzzer by practicing on a makeshift practice buzzer of masking tape wrapped around a mechanical pencil.

He also endears himself to fans by posting messages like “Happy Birthday” to specific people during Final Jeopardy.

His incredible run comes as the game show has just wrapped up taping for its 35th season.
