The Central Coast Rescue Mission served about 1,00 meals to people in need at their annual Thanksgiving community banquet Thursday.

“The population is struggling. I know lots of agencies in the area on the Central Coast area are really trying to help the people who are in need,” Chris Rutledge, program manager of the Central Coast Rescue said.

Mission director Jon Bronkowski said the date of the banquet this year was earlier because they wanted to have the opportunity to prepare hearts for the holidays.

“This is more than a meal to us. It is a chance to bring the community together in one place, to bring hope to individuals who need it, and to help people see the impact they can have on one another’s lives,” Bronkowski said.

Almost 100 volunteers and local businesses including FedEx, Starbucks, the Santa Maria Food Bank and local churches helped at the event.
