Hundreds of refurbished bikes are being given away to children in San Luis Obispo County this holiday season.

While the pandemic has caused many events to be canceled, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office didn’t let it get in the way of their 31st annual Christmas Bicycle Giveaway.

The giveaway was conducted differently, however.

There were no large crowds or long lines as the bikes were handed out by appointment-only this year and masks were required.

In all, about 270 bikes will have been handed out.

Correctional Sgt. Lacey Silveira headed up the project and Honor Farm inmate Clifton Pfeifer helped repair and refurbish the bikes, which are donated by community members.

K-Man Cyclery, Rita's Rainbows and the Sheriff's Advisory Foundation also donated to the campaign.
