The San Luis Obispo Police Department is doubling fees on a series of violations throughout November 4th.

The violations include unruly gathering host, public urination, open containers, and noise complaints.

“What we’re hoping to do is really just make it an enjoyable Halloween for everybody and keep everybody safe" said Fred Mickel, a Lieutenant with the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

During the Halloween Safety Enhancement Zone, the violation fees range from $700-$1,000.

Mickel recommends that those who know they will be hosting parties during weekends like this one, register their parties online. However, the parties must have already been registered a week in advance.

Registration of a party allows officials to give a courtesy call to the party host to end the noise within 20 minutes in order to avoid a noise violation fee.

Calvin Carter lives in San Luis Obispo and says he believes the fines are too high.

$700 is ridiculous, I just think they’re putting their nose in people’s business," added Carter.
