40 Prado homeless center celebrating 1-year in operation

40 Prado homeless center is celebrating its one year anniversary and taking a look back at the center's accomplishments.

40 Prado says they've reached several of its goals such as offering on-site medical services, mental health and substance abuse support, community gardens, as well as, opportunities for children to have their own rooms and a play area.

They say the population of people over 65 years old has grown by 77 percent since they opened, but having immediate medical care has been instrumental in helping people and reducing emergency room visits.

“We offer an opportunity for people to have a safe place while they prepare while they save their money, while they wait for that perfect home. That is harder and harder to come by here in SLO county, but that is our hope," said Grace Mcintosh, director of homeless services.

40 Prado is hosting a fundraiser and one year birthday party to support the ongoing operation costs.

I's this Sunday at Cuesta College’s performing arts center from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
