Arroyo Grande police stepping up patrol this holiday weekend

Arroyo Grande police are reminding people not to drive under the influence and get a ride while celebrating this Thanksgiving weekend.

In a statement today, the Arroyo Grande Police Department says it will have extra officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. They will also be looking for other unsafe driving practices like speeding, not wearing a seat belt, or driving distracted.

“We want everyone to enjoy the holidays and be safe when they must travel,” said Chief of Police, Michael Martinez. “Taking simple safety measures like driving sober, following the speed limit and wearing a seat belt helps keep yourself and others safe.”

Police say that a "DUI Doesn't Just Mean Booze." Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs and marijuana can also impair driving.
