Construction of the Highway 101 and Betteravia Road interchange in Santa Maria is complete.

The city added and extended lanes to the north and southbound on and off ramps.

The lanes will help alleviate traffic.

It is also meant to minimize delays and improve the flow in the area where congestion has built because of newly built developments.

"We were seeing a problem developing with all this development in town vehicles were backing up on the 101 which is dangerous so we saw a problem we came up with a solution and it works great,” said Mark Van De Kamp, City of Santa Maria public information officer.

The project will cost $900,000 to complete.
