A cooldown started today with significant breeze in the interior valleys but the temperature drop was minimal. More dramatic cooling takes place Saturday and Sunday.

This transition lead to some complications with a fire that broke out along the 101 in the Atascadero area today. Highs were still in the 90s but afternoon winds fanned flames.

At the coast the clouds hung in there at the beaches. Most coastal valleys saw decent clearing with mild highs near the averages.

Coastal change over the weekend will be minimal. There should be more penetration of the marine clouds during the night and morning hours.

This cooler pattern inland only lasts through Monday. Temps jump back into the mid to upper 90s by Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 100-107 is possible again in parts of the Southern Salinas River Valley.

The tropics will need to be watched later next week. Modeling is showing potential development which could impact our weather with clouds and muggy air, but it is a way out there to hone in on specifics.
