Watch: Aerials show Hwy 1 wiped out by landslide in Big Sur

The landslide that is blocking access on Highway 1 to Big Sur became exacerbated over the weekend.

Highway 1 has been closed south of Big Sur State Park in Monterey County after a series of rock slides and landslides wiped out the roads earlier this year; now there’s video to see just how much of the highway has been decimated through natural disasters.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office posted aerial footage to its Facebook page and it’s clear the road is not ready to be reopened.

"The slide went from bad to worse over the weekend," the post read.

There’s a lot of work to be done.

Caltrans says the highway is closed from Limekiln Creek Bridge to 0.5 miles south of Big Sur. They are working to remove remnants of the mudslide and begin bridge replacement measures.

Motorists should use alternate routes to avoid the closure.
