Book worms and book lovers have a chance to help out in the community over the next 10 days by attending the 7th annual Painted Chair Raffle for the Santa Maria Public Library that began Tuesday.
The Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library hosts the fundraiser every year at the Town Center Mall.
This year, there will be work from local artists, such as chairs and other donated items inspired by various books and genres, given away during the drawing, which takes place on April 13.
"We have sponsors; each chair has a local sponsor and they’ve paid $100 to sponsor the chair," said Marilyn Moll, with the Friends of the Santa Maria Public Library.
There will also be a wine auction on 12 bottles inspired and created by Tom Black and Jim Clendenen, known as "Black by Black." Organizers say this rare wine is only available at charity auctions.
The wine bidding will close at 7:30 p.m. April 13.
The money goes toward helping the library purchase more books and movies, as well as the library’s summer reading program and events for kids.
