Volunteers will ‘Serve Santa Maria’ this weekend

Posted

Churches, government entities and other organizations are joining forces to help people out in the Santa Maria community this weekend.

It’s part of the aptly named "Serve Santa Maria" event that’s a group effort among churches, businesses, volunteers, Santa Barbara County and the City of Santa Maria.

They’re setting out this Saturday to do everything from painting a Baptist church to clearing a home’s backyard to planting at schools and a senior center.

"If we can get two and a half, three hours out of a volunteer — multiply that by several hundred people. That’s how we do these things. It takes many hands working together to make this stuff happen," said pastor and Serve Santa Maria organizer Carl Nielsen.

There are more than 700 people on the email list for the Serve Santa Maria group. Those interested can email Nielsen at revcnn@gmail.com to get involved.
