Helicopter clips power lines causing vegetation fire

A helicopter clipped power lines, sparking a small vegetation fire in Goleta Friday morning, according to Santa Barbara County Fire.

Public Information Officer Dave Zaniboni says firefighters were able to put out a quarter-acre vegetation fire around 8:50 a.m. on Ellwood Ranch Road in Goleta.

Zaniboni said the grass was still green and moist, therefore it did not spread very far.

The pilot was uninjured after the helicopter clipped high tension wires causing one to fall and create sparks. Firefighters say the pilot was able to make an emergency landing in the canyon.

The fire has been contained and no injuries were reported.
