Santa Maria firefighters in training got a whiff of reality by participating in a live-fire simulation Friday afternoon.
The Santa Maria Fire Department says its recruits are in their fourth week of a 10-week training.
They released video and pictures of the conditions firefighters face during the training, which is meant to simulate what they could face around the city in the future.
Live-fire training helps firefighters learn about the fire’s behavior and basic firefighting tactics.
