Prepare for fire season: Weeds to be cleared by June 1 deadline

Posted

Residents have two weeks to clear up the areas around their homes in preparation for fire season in Atascadero.

Atascadero Fire and Emergency Services says its mission is to eliminate vegetative growth which may constitute a hazard to the life and safety of the residents.

Weed abatement requirements include clearing annual grasses 100 feet from any structure, 10 feet from any driveway, 50 feet from any property line and clearing the easement along the roadway.

Officials say it’s mandatory for residents to get rid of any vegetation that fall under those descriptions by June 1.

If the weeds are not properly cleared, a city contractor will be authorized to clear the hazardous weeds. If it comes down to this, the homeowner would be billed at 150 percent of the total contractor’s cost.

For more information, you can visit the city’s website or contact fire and emergency services at (805) 461-5070.
